Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay today announced the names of the winners of this year’s Search for Ten Outstanding Students of Makati (TOSM) who will be recognized on March 9, 5pm at the Francisco Santiago Hall, Equitable PCIBank Tower I Building in Makati.

Binay said the search, now on its 31st year, seeks to recognize the vital role of the city’s youth in the growth and development of the community, the city, and the nation as a whole, thus encouraging them to continuously strive for excellence and leadership.

“This annual undertaking is our way of paying tribute to highly talented students whose excellent academic performance and extra-curricular achievements show great leadership potential that can be fully developed and harnessed for the promotion of growth and progress not just in their community, but in Makati and the entire country as well,” Binay said.

Binay said this year’s awardees are Alvin S. Bulanadi of Makati High School, Marlon O. Romero of Bangkal High School, Mariama M. Teodoro of San Isidro National High School, Ma. Kristle M. Trinidad of Benigno S. Aquino High School, Jenevieve M. Tumbocon of San Antonio National High School, Andrei Dominic A. Avellanosa of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Ma. Luisa M. Jimenez of Assumption College, Camille Rae C. Lim of Colegio San Agustin, Kathryn Eunice B. Salonga of Makati Hope Christian School, and Ma. Kristina Camille D. Tan of St. Paul College-Makati.

The mayor will lead other city officials and guests in the proclamation and awarding ceremonies on March 9. The winners will receive trophies, Paglingkuran ang Bayan medallions and gifts from Bookmark, National Bookstore, Goodwill Bookstore, Nestle Philippines, and San Miguel Corporation.

Binay also acknowledged the participation of the Makati Jaycees, a civic organization, which has been program partner for the past 30 years.  Makati Jaycees president Louie Cale has appointed Adrian Ocampo as Chairman of the Jaycees TOSM 2007 Committee.

Selected for the Jaycees Leadership Awards were Bianca Rose P. Antalan of Fort BonifacioHigh School and Noelle Jenina Francesca E. Buan of Assumption College.

The city-wide search was conducted by the Museum and Cultural Affairs Office (MCAO) of the city government last January 8, and the judging took place last February 13.

The following criteria were used to determine the winners: academic, 40 per cent; extra-curricular activities (in-school), 25 per cent; extra-curricular activities (out-of-school), 25 per cent; and delivery of piece for particular talent, 10 per cent.

Fourth year high school students from public and private schools in Makati who were nominated by their respective schools were screened based on the guidelines approved by the organizers and the board of judges.  To be qualified, the student: must be a consistent scholar from first to fourth year and his/her certified scholastic record must be submitted to the MCAO; must have been enrolled in only one school for four academic years (transferees from other schools are disqualified); of good moral character; must have outstanding achievements in extra-curricular activities in school i.e. acting, declamation, literary writing, oratory, painting, etc. that contributed to the exposure of Makati; must have had outstanding achievements out of school; and have submitted the piece which won him/her honors in extra-curricular activities and performed the winning piece (as the case may be) before the Board of Judges.
